Grants

Grants are money given on behalf of the student, which do not need to be repaid.

Federal Grants

bullet Pell Grant
For the 2003-2004 school year, Pell Grant awards range from $400 to $3,300 per year toward educational expenses of US citizens and permanent residents. Eligibility is determined by a formula set down by Congress and is based upon the information requested on the FAFSA.
 
bullet Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant Program (SEOG)
The SEOG program was established by the federal government to help students from the lowest income families meet educational expenses. Grants range from $100 to $4,000 based on extreme financial need. Recipients must also be eligible for and receive the Pell Grant, and not receive a TAP Grant.

State Grants  

bullet New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)
TAP provides grants of up to $4,125 per year for students whose parents who are legal residents of New York State. TAP awards are determined by the amount of parents net taxable New York State income (gross income less all exemptions and deductions). Students from families with a net taxable income up to $50,500 are eligible. If more than one family member is attending college, the net taxable income is reduced by $3,000 for the second person and $2,000 for each additional person.
