Requirements

The Sy Syms School of Business provides an additional dimension to the undergraduate dual program.  Established through a major gift by Sy Syms, a prominent businessman and a member of the University's Board of Trustees, the School offers the unique combination of a complete business curriculum along with the University's Jewish studies component.

The Sy Syms School of Business provides its students with professional preparation for a business career, a broad-based education in the liberal arts, and a full Jewish Studies Program.  The program, leading to the Bachelor of Science degree, incorporates the study and use of computers as part of the course work.  Jewish tradition provides the framework for consideration of ethical issues, an integral part of the School's instruction.

Basic Requirements

A total of 128 credits are needed for the Bachelor of Science degree.  General requirements include:  7-credits in fundamental courses (English Composition, Speech, Physical Education); 6-credits in the Humanities (1 course in English or Foreign Literature and 1 course in Art, Music, History or Philosophy); 7-credits in Natural Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Statistics); 6-credits in Social Science (Economics); and courses in Hebrew Language, Bible, Jewish Philosophy, History, and Law.

Core Curriculum

The core curriculum provides students with a common body of knowledge in business studies to prepare them for advanced courses in their area of concentration.

Five Areas of Concentration are available:

The major in Accounting prepares students for a career in professional accounting.  Completion of this program fulfills the requirements students need to sit for the New York State CPA examination.

 ______________________________________________

The Finance concentration prepares students for careers in commercial investment banking, and corporate financial management.

______________________________________________

The concentration in Information Systems trains students to design and manage computer-based information systems and to assist senior managers in decision-making.

 ______________________________________________

The concentration in Marketing offers broad coverage of the marketing discipline so that students will have the theoretical and applied background to recognize and solve problems in marketing.  The range of course work enables students to pursue careers in sales, marketing research, or marketing management.

 ______________________________________________

The concentration in Management provides students with the ability to view the organization as an overall entity and to develop skills in tactical and strategic planning as well as general management.
