CELEBRATING A NEW BEGINNING AS YU INVESTS RICHARD M. JOEL AS FOURTH PRESIDENT
Yeshiva University welcomed Richard M. Joel as its fourth president in 117 years in a daylong celebration, Sunday, September 21.
Hundreds of individuals, including roshei yeshiva, dignitaries, university presidents, students, deans, and Jewish communal leaders, participated in the historic celebration and afternoon reception. President Joel's address, greetings by New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Daniel Ayalon, Israel's ambassador to the US were the day's highlights.
Before coming to YU, President Joel served as president and international director of Hillel: Foundation for Jewish Campus Life for 14 years prior to joining YU. He revitalized Jewish renaissance among college students in America and abroad and transformed Hillel into an international force in self-discovery of one’s Jewishness. As an experienced and visionary CEO, President Joel will seek to ensure Yeshiva University’s role as the flagship of Torah Umadda, the synthesis of Jewish learning and the advancement of human knowledge. An attorney and former Bronx Assistant District Attorney, President Joel was also an associate dean and professor at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.
