COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR DR. RONALD BRESLOW TO PRESENT YESHIVA UNIVERSITY'S ANNUAL KUKIN CHEMISTRY LECTURE NOVEMBER 12

New York, NY, October 16, 2003—Dr. Ronald Breslow, Samuel Latham Mitchill Professor of Chemistry and University Professor at Columbia University, will present the 2003 Ira Kukin Chemistry Lecture, "The Chemistry-Biology Interface," at Yeshiva University on Wednesday, November 12.

The 8 pm presentation at Weissberg Commons, Belfer Hall, 2495 Amsterdam Avenue at 184th Street on the university's Wilf Campus in Washington Heights is free and open to the public. The lecture, among a series at YU given by renowned scientists, is supported by Dr. Ira Kukin, vice chairman of the university's board of trustees and chairman of its committee on academic affairs.

Dr. Breslow is a member of the United States National Academy of Sciences and chaired the Chemistry Division from 1974 to 1977. Also, he was president of the American Chemical Society. He is a foreign fellow of the Indian National Science Academy; honorary member of the Korean Chemical Society, the Royal Society of Chemistry of Great Britain, the Chemical Society of Japan, and a fellow of the World Innovation Foundation.

In 1997, Chemical & Engineering News named him one of the top 75 contributors to the chemical enterprise in the past 75 years; and, in 1999 he won the Priestley Medal, the American Chemical Society’s most prestigious award. In 2000 he won the New York City Mayor's Award in Science and two years later, he received the American Chemical Society Bader Award in Bioorganic or Bioinorganic Chemistry and the Esselen Award for Chemistry in the Public Interest. He has held more than 150 named and visiting professorships and contributed to some 400 publications.
