MANUSCRIPTS & MANUSCRIPT CATALOGS

  • Catalog of Manuscripts at the Jewish National and University Library and the Institute of Microfilmed Hebrew Manuscripts. 
  • The David Simonsen Manuscripts - A digital collection of approximately 160 manuscripts in The Royal Library, Copenhagen.  The digitized items range from the only Genizah fragment in Danish collections -a Judeo-Arabic letter, tentatively dated to the 12th century - to modern copies of manuscripts in other libraries, and include “Gemma’s Prayerbook”, a decorated Hebrew prayer book written for the widow Gemma (Yemma) in Modena in 1531.
  • Digitized Manuscripts from the collection of the National Library of Israel and other collections– includes bible manuscripts, ketubbot, Talmudic literature, liturgy, writings of Maimonides, Rashi and others, and communal documents.
  • Friedberg Genizah Project- Online compendium of Genizah fragments from collections all over the world.  This website is accessed with an automatic login from designated computers in the Mendel Gottesman and Hedi Steinberg Libraries.  Inquire at the library desks.  Be sure to log out when your session is completed.  For additional access and for access from off campus to the Friedberg Genizah Project, click on Register in the New Member box and register for a personal username and password. Be sure to specify your affiliation and the reason for your request.
  • Mekhilta Textual Witnesses Database - includes all extant manuscripts: Ms Oxford, Ms Munich, Ms Vatican, Ms Cansantana, the Constantinople editio princeps, and transcriptions of all Geniza fragments and European binding fragments. The Database also includes a chart of comparison between the Constantinople editio princeps and the Venice edition of 1545.

  • Tosefta Textual Witnesses Database - Includes all extant manuscripts: Ms Vienna, Ms Erfurt, Ms London, the Venice editio princeps and transcriptions of all Geniza fragments and European binding fragments. The database also includes a catalogue of all the fragments divided by tractates; the fragments are joined to reconstruct original copies.

Index Theologicus - The theological database contains document descriptions of articles from more than 600 periodicals in theology and religious studies, and essays from Festschriften and congress publications. The database focuses mainly on articles written in Western European languages.

Index to Yiddish Periodicals (IYP) - Indexes materials published in the Yiddish press in Eastern Europe, from its beginnings (1862) until 1939 (in the Soviet Union: until 1948).
