Lecture: Literary-theological reading of Ezekiel incorporating traditional
Jewish Biblical study, from Rabbinic literature down to the present day.
Use of the results of modern scholarship (linguistics; archaeology) for
this purpose. Western culture as a source of insight and challenge for the
theological study of Tenakh.

Topics Covered: Primary subjects covered include the definition and
application of peshat analysis to maase merkava; uniqueness of Yehezkel as
a prophet; symbolic actions; the concept of Galut; false prophecy;
individual responsibility vs. collective responsibility; cessation of
nevua; prophetic assessment of Jewish history; halakhic problems in
Ezekiel. Tentative list of chapters: 1-4; 8-14; 18; 20; 24; 28; 33-34;
36-37; 44. Also: textual and exegetical problems as they come up in class.

Please bring to class Biblical text+Miqraot Gedolot. Other important
commentaries are R. Yosef Kara, R. Elazar of Beaugance, Abravanel, Malbim.
Additional sources will be discussed in class as needed or desired.
