How can I forward my University Gmail email to my own account? 1. How will my new email account differ from a regular Gmail account? There will be a Yeshiva University branding on the start page and advertisements will be suppressed while you are still a student. Other than that, your university Gmail account will behave just like any regular Gmail account.
2. When is the change to Gmail scheduled? For Undergraduates the change is tentatively scheduled for June 20th. WSSW and Azrieli will follow soon after.
3. How will I be notified of my new account?A message will be sent to your existing university account with the details of your new account ID and password.
4. How will my new email name be structured? The new Google email addresses will have the following naming convention:
YU Undergraduate Students: firstname.lastname@mail.yu.edu
Wurzweiler School of Social Work: firstname.lastname@mail.wssw.yu.edu
Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education and Administration: firstname.lastname@mail.azrieli.yu.edu
Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology: firstname.lastname@ferkauf.yu.edu
Albert Einstein College of Medicine: firstname.lastname@med.einstein.yu.edu
Einstein Graduate Division of Biomedical Sciences: firstname.lastname@phd.einstein.yu.edu
Cardozo School of Law: firstname.lastname@law.cardozo.yu.edu
5. Can we choose the new address? For instance, I’d rather use a shortened version of my first name. Your firstname.lastname address will be your first and last name separated by a dot. A middle initial may also be used to differentiate you from someone else with the same name. Should you desire a shortened version of your full name, e.g., "Bart" instead of "Bartholomew", the ITS Help Desk (#, then 6123) can work with you to adjust your address.
Please note: In order for such a request to be considered, however, your original name (first or last) must have a minimum of eight characters. In addition, the adjusted address must be a reasonably derived abbreviation of your full legal name that presents a typographically improved address at which your correspondents can reach you conveniently. (A Hebrew or other foreign-language name is acceptable, if it is the name you are known by.)
If your desired address is already in use by someone else, the Help Desk will work with you to select an acceptable alternate. Please note, though, that “handles” or arbitrary address choices cannot be assigned.

8. When will alumni accounts be created?Accounts will be automatically generated upon graduation for current students and will be generated for all existing alumni.
9. How long will my alumni account be active? There is no planned end date for alumni accounts.
10. What will happen to my old YUMS account? It will be retained for one year from the change-over and automatic forwarding will be configured to redirect any mail to your new account. Of course, you should notify all of your correspondents of your new account as soon as possible.
