Bernard Revel Graduate School evolved from the graduate program in Semitics, which was established in 1935. The program was transformed into the Graduate School in 1937. In 1941, the School was expanded and renamed in honor of the late Dr. Bernard Revel, founder and first president of Yeshiva College.
Dr. Samuel Belkin, second University president, was secretary of the faculty during the School's early years. Dr. Norman Lamm, University chancellor, earned his PhD in Jewish philosophy from Revel Graduate School in 1966. Other alumni have also made important contributions in their fields. They include professors, researchers, authors, principals, and heads of Jewish community agencies.
