The Basic Jewish Studies Program Welcomes You!
The Basic Jewish Studies Program invites you to experience Jewish life and scholarship in a unique and embracing setting.
The Yeshiva University Basic Jewish Studies Program on the Beren Campus in Manhattan’s Murray Hill neighborhood is part of the Judaic studies component of Stern College for Women and Sy Syms School of Business. The Basic Jewish Studies curriculum offers an array of exciting opportunities for women to explore Jewish learning, living, and personal growth. It orients and familiarizes students with the essentials of Jewish studies and eases the transition of their first semesters on campus.
Within two years, Basic Jewish Studies students are fully integrated into higher-level Stern College for Women Judaic studies courses.
New: Please join us for July in Jerusalem, a unique and inspiring experience in Jewish living and learning led by faculty from Yeshiva University’s
The Basic Jewish Studies program encompasses students from across the globe, including France, Colombia, Sweden, Russia, and Morocco. They participate in inspirational Shabbat celebrations and enjoy Shabbat hospitality in the homes of their mentors, teachers, and community members.
Other program offerings include outings to sites of Jewish and general interest. Many of New York’s top Jewish institutions and locales, including the Jewish Museum, the Museum of Jewish Heritage, and the Lower East Side, are a short trek from our Murray Hill campus.
A weekly chavruta (study-partner) program pairs women in the program with more advanced students. Learning takes place in the Beit Midrash, so that Basic Jewish Studies students benefit from a true Jewish learning environment. Yomim iyun (festive days of learning) and the popular “Latte and Learn” series are among the many special offerings that keep the focus on Torah, fellowship, and growth.
At all times, students are encouraged to ask questions, think for themselves, and develop their own path to Jewish knowledge and observance.
